I think my Transfer Case is shot

I think my Transfer Case is shot
Hi All,
I'm brand new to the forum, and bought my '95 4Runner SR5 as a winter beater while I survive the winter out here in Boston.
I've done a good amount of searching and can't quite find the symptom my truck is currently exhibiting.
Despite having a bit of rust on non-structural components, the truck is pretty solid, and the drivetrain has proven itself decently robust. It's currently got 167k on her; 13k of which I have put on in the past seven months.
Anyway, two nights ago I drove the truck home without issue. The next day, I can't get it to move (I shift it into D or R and the engine just revs and revs). It seems like the Xfer case is stuck in neutral. The transmission shifts fine, the tranny fluid is where it should be, and here's the real kicker:
I can shift into 4L without issue and drive away just fine. I've done a visual inspection of the tranny/xfer case and can't see anything out of the ordinary, with no evidence of a mass exodus of fluids.
I'm thinking I need to buy a new xfer case -- to you experts, does this seem like a typical symptom? I could hear or feel no signs of a failing tranny/xfer case the day before, and the next day all of a sudden, the truck won't budge when in 2H or 4H.
And now for a second question: does anyone have one they'd be willing to sell?
Thanks in advance!
Collin

Have you tried 2HI and 4HI? Sure you didn't knock tcase into N by accident?
You said it works in 4L and no such thing as 2L.

I've had an opportunity to take a further look at this and I was hoping to get some input.
Given that I have the V6 Auto, my transmission is the A340-H. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like swapping a transfer case for this transmission is as easy/straightforward as I would've liked.
That said, I've been reading quite a bit about these transmissions having trouble with their solenoids.
The transmission shifts through the gears without issue when in 4L but won't move at all when in 2H or 4H. Additionally, everything was working FINE the last time I drove it, with no signs of increased wear.
Given this, my gut tells me it's an electrical issue. Oh, and it also happened to be raining when I found this in the first place. Would the infamous solenoids be the culprit?
My background is in sports cars....which means both automatic transmissions AND transfer cases are a bit foreign to me!

Thanks -- that sounds like it.
And ugh...it's as bad as I feared. Assuming I do the labor myself, what's the cheapest way to get around this? My guess is that it's hydraulic -- is there anything I can look at or replace without tearing the tranny apart?
Now this begs the question: how much am I willing to spend on a $2k 4Runner? Moreover, how much can I get for a 4Runner that doesn't drive???
Sigh.
Thanks for the help!

can you drive away in 4H and 1st or 2nd...instead of 4H and Drive? that will tell you if its the solenoids..
when my solenoids go stuck.. my truck wouldnt move, becuz it was getting stuck in 3rd..but when i put it in 1st it moved.
