3VZE Power at low RPM
1991 V6 manual transmission.
Everything's stock...not crazy add-ons or aftermarket changes.
I've only put about 70 miles on this truck. I'm happy with it's power and acceleration at about 2,000RPM and higher but at lower RPM it has no power at all. There's a slight hill near my house after a turn off the main road. I typically shift into 2nd gear before making the turn and the truck struggles to make it up the incline. My old Nissan 4 cylinder which had NO power used to make it up the incline better.
Timing is dead on at 10deg BTDC, new plugs, new wires, new distributor cap...no CEL. Anything else I can check? Like i said, as soon as it hits 2,000RPM it's like it's a different engine and it pulls great.

Probably not relevant, but:
I have the same Runner. Seems to me it runs better with higher rpms. Look at your manual for "suggested" shifts. I am shifting usually around 3K. So if you are slowing, turning, and going up hill, maybe you need to be in a lower gear? I am not saying you don't know how to drive. I have always had manual trans, and these 4runners are slow/rough at low rpms.

Skypilot, I checked the VAF and it's fine. I did notice the other plastic hose that comes off of the WYE right before the air cleaner box wasn't really on all the way so I snugged that up. The last owner got lazy because the clamp was rusted on so he never bothered to seat it right.
Vanman, I hear ya...I do have to admit that the gears on this truck seem a lot longer than the nissan that I'm used to. If i was going over 10mph in the Nissan in 1st gear the truck would be screaming at a high RPM...but with that said, I'm not taking the turn so slowly that I need to be in 1st. I'm probably doing 15mph or so which according to the book puts me in 2nd gear. I don't expect to be thrown back in my seat with acceleration but it seems wrong that the gas pedal seems dead in this situation.
I just filled up the tank and apparently on the first 80 miles I've had the truck I've gotten 12MPG...about 1/3 of the driving was on the highway. That sounds horrible....

Have you checked your throttle cable? Mine was loose and I wasn't getting any power unless I was almost to the floor. I adjusted my cable a little bit and it's a little better.

Coreman23 - Throttle cable is good and tight.
Greencactus3 - I put an ohm meter on it and it varied in a cyclical pattern like the FSM says it should. What made you want to open yours up? Were your reading within spec or out of spec?
I don't have a good nose for exhaust but it smells rich to me...
