Are the leaf springs in my 89 4runner the same leaf springs in the 84, 85, 86, 87, and 88 4runners?

JcWhitney has a good deal going on leaf springs right now (my 4runner has the notorious butt drag) and they don't seem to think the springs would fit.

What gives here? Thanks.

im not to sure if all the leaf springs are the same for the first gen.
because on downey-off-road website, they have 86-88 then 89-95.
soo, possible there could be some slight variations.

I would think if there are differences, it would be 84 & 85 are the same and 86, 87, 88 & 89 would be the same.

I bought those JC Whitney springs for my 88 4 Runner and they are bouncey.

i think they are different, since when you do the trail gear rear lift kit you have to move both the front and rear hangers on 88 and on 89 you only have to move one. (i think thats correct, not 100% positive though)

Moving hangers on those kits is because those springs are longer than stock. Nothing to do with what year.

Yeah they changed in there somewhere and I think it was '89 because the truck went to a new design in '89 but the runner not til '90. Not sure what Toyota did about the springs though. I believe the springs got wider on the truck but again I don't know if Toyota used up the rest of their skinny ones on the runners until they went to coils in '90 or used the wider truck leaves for one year of runner. FWIW the 2 parts sites i checked had the same part number for '88 and '89 runners and different numbers for '88 and '89 trucks. I just went and measured my '86 and they are 2 5/8" but if you look on parts sites that list a measurement (RockAuto) it says 2 1/2". If you noodle around you can probably find a site that lists the '89-'95 width which I think is 3". But buyer beware...I wouldn't swear to any of this as "for sure". Good luck.

1989 Truck springs are longer. 47 inch eye to eye , earlier is 43 inch.
