YOU brave SOB leaving such a big drink in that cup holder.
One of two things is bound to happen.....
A) as soon as you hit a small bump the damn drink tips out and soaks everything.
or
B) you hit a bigger bump after refilling your drink after it fell out and it breaks the cheapo cup holder and soaks everything AGAIN.

Yeah! That and your drinks always spill onto your sterio and into your shifter boots (for us sr5 guys)...
But where the heck else are you gonna stuff your drinks? There is no space in the truck haha!

On your original question yes the cold temps. might affect the reverse switch it can cause metal to contract and plastic to become more brittle but not usually until it gets seriously cold like below -10C or <9F kinda thing in serious cold metal will become brittle too but most folks will never see it that cold LOL...
Also grease can become gummy and stiffen up with the cold so the switch might not be making good contact all the time.

been searchin around my 88 for one and the only one I can find doesn't sit in the passenger seat every time I'm in the truck.
