I got one for ya....(95 T4R)

When driving on the freeway, the temperature gauge on my 95 4runner travels wildly back and forth. Only on the freeway, not in town. It goes to cold, then back to the middle and vise versa. Loose connection somewhere?? Any help much obliged!

hey, mine does that too!!!

Mine goes from mid, to cold, real quick like, esp when I give it gas. Not so much when I let off. I'm guessing it's a loose connection,or a bad temp sensor.

Check the coolant level first. If thats not it then I would go with a bad temp sender. The sensor gives info to the computer and helps regulate mixture and eng speed. the sender gives a signal to the guage about engine temp. Check that connection or replace it.

The temp sensor is on a small housing that is bolted to the back of the intake manifold. Besides low coolant level two other things that could contribute to these symptoms are a faulty connection in a ground splice in the harness in the engine compartment. Somewhere ther is a technical bulletin about this.

also the little hose that is connected to the sensor housing can get plugged up

You're gonna have to do a 3.4 swap to correct this issue unfortunately.
