ok, when i start my truck it idles REALLY good at a little over 1k rpm's then when it warms up a litte and the cold start injector turns off the idle drops to about 200 rpms. I know that the screw on the TB will adjust cold idle, but i don't want that to go up anymore. How can i keep my cold start idle <1500 rpms, but get my warm idle back above 500rpms?

 

it adjust your idle, period. just let your motor warm up and then adjust that screw till you get your idle where you want

and your cold start injector just operates while your cranking.. its just to get the motor up and running thats it then its off. the car idles higher when cold due to sensor readings (ie coolant temp sensor)..

 

when we get the recent single digit temps my cold idle is almost 1750. warm idle at 750. don't worry about the cold idle getting up there, adjust for warm.

 

ok, i adjusted the screw while warm and now warm idle is a nice 750rpm's, but for about 5 minutes when the truck is warming up idle is <2000 rpms. I sound like a compleate retard when i drive around, any ideas?

There's a small allen screw on the throttle that limits the throttle cable, it bumps into the dash pot.

 

It should calm down when it warms up.If it doesn't,I'd say the IAC was bad.It is controlled by water temp alone.How's your T-stat?Then again you need to see if the IAC is getting hot water.Do the hoses going to it get hot?If not they may be clogged.

I may have a air bubble in my engine that i have been trying to get out for a while, could this cause it?

 

You don't want to adjust the dashpot screw to fix your idle. Adjusting that screw should not even effect your idle. Your start up idle should be around 1700 or so but not over 2000 for more than a few seconds. If it is staying above that for a few minutes or more then something is not right. I would start off by checking for vacuum leaks just to make sure. Also it is possible that someone has messed around with the other adjusting screw on your throttle linkage. That's the one that effects how far open the throttle is. One other thing to check is your IAC (Idle Air Control) valve. That's not the valve on the plenum but it is located directly below the plenum. In order to adjust that valve it has to be removed. Its purpose is to let extra air into the motor while it is still cold. It is possible that the valve was messed with before and it is misadjusted. While your truck is running pinch the hose that goes from the IAC to the plenum. When your truck is cold the idle should drop down to the regular idle speed of 750. Then do the pinch test again when the truck is warm and the idle speed should not change (still be at 750). That valve should be may be open when cold and slowly close as the temp rises. Could be that it is sticking open for a while (causing high idle for a longer period of time) and then it finally frees itself and starts working properly.
