Post How often do water pumps go?

I am rebuilding my engine and am wondering if it would be a good idea to replace my water pump while its so easy to get to. My truck had 170,000 on it when i pulled the engine. Has many people had their water pumps go? Let me know.

I would say definitely replace it, I don't know how often they fail but with 170,000 your probably pushing your luck by reusing the old one. If you've got a V6 and you have to pull everything off to replace it later you won't be happy.

which engine?

Mine went @ 198,000 onmy 3.0. While you're in there, replace the oil pump & seals, and adjust the vavles.

Save yourself the time and go ahead and replace it. You might also look at replacing your fan clutch. Pretty sure that the fan clutch and the water pump have the same life expectancy. Tim
