i thought about that, but chrome is such a pain in the %&^@ to paint. and if i painted the bumpers black, i'd have to redo the valance green

It took me about 20 somethin cause i didnt want it to look too ty haha. Sanded everything down with 180 grit and a sanding block. Then i used like 4 cans of rustoleum primer, 10 or so cans of walmart cheap gloss black and about 5 cans of Krylon matte finish.

Before: Real dirty and beat up

I didnt bother with the drivers door either cause its beat to hell and back. i'm gonna hit the wheels the same way when i get my new tires on. I think it turned out pretty good for rattle cans. the pics dont really do it justice

Rattle Can Paint Job

For my 1982 Toyota Pickup I am using Eastwoods Rust Converter for a base to neutralize the rust, then going to spray an SEM High Build primer, then will wet sand with 800 grit. Finally I will use Spray Max 2k color match single stage paint. The primer and single stage cost me just over $200 with shipping for 5 cans of each. The Eastwood rust converter was $18 per can. The great thing about all of these is they are rattle cans. It saves you about $600 without having to buy an air compressor and HLVP sprayers. i've heard industrial grade MRO high solids paint is the !!!!...although..at almost $20 a can...i think i'll pass..

so what do you guys find to be the best rattle can paint?

im going to paint my '86 GLOSS BLACK..and i want it to look decent when done...im gonna do a CRAP LOAD of prep too...haha..lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of sanding, bondo, sanding, more bondo, more sanding..then lots of tape..haha
If you're looking for the best results, I recommend Dupli-Color. It's a bit pricey but it's far superior. it even comes in metallic colors.

on one hand it sucks that so many original paint trucks get spray bombed, but on the other hand its a dead giveaway to a truck i should stay away from when looking to buy one. Because you can bet theres all kinds of other molestation that's gone on with it as well.

I spray bombed mine orange because it was made from several different 4Runners, using the straightest body pieces I could find at the time. So to say that there is a lot of molestation hiding underneath isn't always correct. I've since gotten it back down to factory silver, put the original doors back on, and then spray bombed the fenders and hood silver until I can afford to have the paint job professionally redone. Its a good 20 foot paint job at this point, but at least its all one color lol.
