Apparently the 3.slow will go further. I'm now at almost 201,000 miles(well, 200,948 to be exact, and almost 4,000 miles more than my last post in this thread, for those of you keeping track of me). Still same ol same ol for my 3.0. Lately MPG has been around 19, which is wierd for the winter gas. It seems to like that crap( well, not really like it, since it is using less of it), though, so I can't complain. BTW, for the person who said that the sticks are the ones getting the 18+MPG, you are correct, for the most part. The sticks tend to be a little easier on the gas than the autos. I've heard of automatics (4Runners)getting 17-18MPG, though. But that's just as I've heard of ( and gotten myself) 19-20MPG with the stick. I've also heard of 3.0 equipped 5speed 4Runners getting 21+MPG, although that doesn't seem likely, it is possible. Now, to get back on topic, and not turn another thread into an MPG thread, yes, the 3.0 is still kickin ass and taking names.....as far as reliability is concerned. Power is a different story.....but hey, I'm used to it by now.

Right around 190000 is when I pulled my 3.0 out and put in a long block from CNS motors (by the way I don't recommend them, long story). Had to pull the motor because it was starting to leak oil out of every orifice it could. I think it had something to do with the fact that I switched over to synthetic oil after it had 140k with conventional oil. I heard that synthetic oil softens up the seals on an engine that has been running regular oil making it leak. Anyway most of the other parts have 230k on them now. I am fearing the transmission is next on the list and I don't know where I am going to scrounge up the $$$ while paying for college.

 

Hmm, Where I was working once upon a time, we had a 4runner comin' to the shop that was driven 800,000km. (c.a. 500k miles).
That was the original motor with everything original save the oil and the head.
The runner was torn due to a rollover years later and I think the motor is still in use in another vehicle...

My V6 3.0l is driven 160,000km and my 1KZ-T is driven 280,000km ( 100k miles and around 180k miles I think)

 

my 95 has 240000 on it with only a timing belt replaced and my friends 94 pickup has 320000 on it and still runs great it hasnt even had the head gaskets replaced YET and it actually has some power and he gives it way tooooo much hell

 

Just picked me up a 90 4Runner with 211000 on the clock, original head gaskets, and man, does it run well.

oh and my truck is on the verge of rolling 197k on an all-original block.

 

im just barely over 310k on my current 3.0...my 89 had around 220k on it before it was sold.

 

Mine's pushing 278XXX miles. Previous owner was pretty good with maintenance. Replacing timing belt, water pumps and such. Not sure if the head gasket was ever done.

Mine runs great with the exception of some wicked rod knock. Want to take her down over the winter and do a full rebuild.....unless a crazy cheap 5th gen V8 pops up.....

 

My '91 Runner has 198K on it, had the HG's done at 188K by Toyota and they put new complete heads on it also, didn't touch the block. Previous owner had it done, so not sure what the issue was, assume one of the HG's went, but not sure why the heads were replaced.

They also did the T-belt, water pump, drive belts, alternator and put new injectors in the new heads.

Runs great, weird little stumble when it first starts every now and then, and of course the lack of power.

Worried about 198k on tha tranny though, not sure if anything has ever been done to it.

 

Mine has 250,1xx thousand miles. Origional headgaskets. Been through a slight fire. Still running.

Just did a small tune up, gonna try to do a compression before i change the plugs in the next day or so.

 

mmm I've got a 94 pick up with 138 K. Without repairs even

 

183K so far on mine... I've had it for 1K miles and no major problems so far... Just minor stuff the PO didn't take care of!

 

Mine has around 156, xxx miles on it now, had factory recall head gasket done in 2000 by the original owner (Unknown milage). runs great.

 

the 93 is at almost 260k now, had the hg recall at 70k... the 94 has almost 210k, and has not had the hg's done yet. A couple friends also have these 3.0's, one has 385k and has done no hg work yet, the other has over 400k and had the hg's done around 150k. yes, this is in the us, and these are miles, not km.

 

This is a pretty cool post. We should start one about the tranny's Auto or 5spd, I would be curious to see what people get out of the Auto's.

Talked to a Toyota tech today who said he has never put an auto tranny in anything that had the 3.0 in front of it, in like 15 years. I don't know if that means they are strong or people just don't bring them to the dealer when they go.

 

well i dont have one but i can clearly say this now i guess for the question

how far can the 3.0 go? how full is the gas tank?

 

My brother had a 88 p/u with 395,000 when it spun a crank shaft bearing and my 89 runner has 250,000 and still runs like new. If you think these things are slow try daily driving a 2f for a few years.

 

in regards to the transmissions, my Toyota Tech said that he rarely ever sees one that needs to be replaced. serviced, but rarely a complete failure. he has an a340h sitting in his garage brand new, and he can't find someone that will take it off his hands cheap because no one needs them.

my truck has 197k on its auto, and its solid as could be. gets a bit of a beating too.

the 4runner has 211k on its auto, but it doesn't shift as nice nor down/up shift precisely when it should. it doesn't hesitate though, and seems to shift how it should, just not exactly when it should. nothing a transmission flush wouldn't fix I don't think.

but I was thinking when I do the 5spd swap on my truck, I'll drop my auto in the 4runner since its seems to be in better shape all around anyways.
