how do i check to see if a 3.0 v6 ecu is any good? I know i could hook it up to another vehicle with the 3.0, but i don't know anyone with a "running" 3.0, Is there any other ways to check?
Thanks in advance yeehaw.

i guess you could open it up and make sure theres no water damage and check for any bad solder joints (would be black, no solder, rough, or no solder touching)

Sam333, it's a used one.

Here is what I learned with ECU's. They'll start going out around 15-20yrs, mileage doesn't matter it has to do with the type of capacitors they use. So changing one out for a used one is a shot in the dark. There are a few companies out there that replace the capacitors and ship it back to you. I got my diesel ECU done for $175? shipped I'm pretty sure, with a 18month warranty. The capacitor issue is just going to happen, again because of the time frame, not mileage or abuse.

Yes electrolytic capacitor do wear out over time due to the drying of the electrolite. Can also be damaged by over voltage or reversed voltage but usually have diodes to protect from reverse voltage, heat also reduces life span. I believe all caps where rated 50C but I would use 85C if you can find. Replaceing caps may not solve problem if a defective cap took out another part. Below is a list of caps on a V6 3vze ECU that I opened.
Positon Value Type
C001 Did not find any labelled C001
C002 7uF @ 63V Electrolytic
C003 Hmm did I forget one
C004 33uF @ 35V Electrolytic
C102 100uF @ 10V Electrolytic
C107 100uF @ 10V Electrolytic
C 220uF @ 10V Electrolytic
C905 15uF @ 35V Electrolytic
C906 335K100 MPX Metal on plastic does not dry out no need to replace unless damaged.
