I have the dash completely out. Does the AC cooling unit have to come out, then the whole heater assembly? I can't figure out how to get the heater core out of the housing, or get the copper tubes out of the heater core. Does this all need to come apart and be done on the bench, or am I missing something simple?

I have searched my ass off actually. Its quite possible I suck though..

https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...-floor-119753/

But he was in the asking and planning phase. FSM is pretty silent on the issue, unless I'm looking in the wrong direction. I'll get a chance to get back into it tomorrow, but it looks like I'm just gonna take it all out. all of it..

Maybe the following generation trucks are easier, I found a post that made it sound simple on a '92 or something.

Even on the newer gen I saw, the core was pretty damn deep in the dash. He even had to pull the gauges and everything.

Well now the summer is over and Iam going to be using this truck more and more in the winter for snow removal. Iam gonna dive into the dash one fo these days and put the new heater core in and some new lines. This should be fun.

UUGH Sometimes I hate our trucks for this reason. My heater blower motor is out (I am lucky it is not my core!!) But I had to rip apart my dash just to get to the relays!! I have to fix mine before winter too!!!

Where to get new hard lines for the heater core?

NLA from the dealer. None of the aftermarket parts suppliers I have talked to have them. Am I stuck with used from a wrecker? Any Ideas?

As far as how deep do you have to go? If you want to replace the hard lines ( one of mine is leaking) It all has to come out. I'll get some pics up, but you have to take out all of the housings behind the dash, AC, blower, etc... Its a bitch.. And I haven't tried to put it back together yet. That will be FUN!

Upside to all of this, is my dash is all out so I'm going to clean and paint it to match the seats I had an upholstery shop do for me.

I'm not saying that you know little about snow removal, by any means, but be careful with that if you love your rig. I've seen nice trucks get trashed from having a plow i.e., frame bent.

I would probably use nothing less than an FJ80 for that. Just my two cents.
