Speaker ideas?
hey yall,
im trying to figure out where to putt some speakers in the front of my 86 4Runner. I dont really want to putt them in the door, it seems like a little much work to putt them there. I have the stock 4in in the front dash, and they just dont suffice. So i think im going to try and putt some 6.5" somewhere. Anyone done this before and have some pics?
thanks for any help.

its funny that you mention this, i just bought my speakers last night!!!
i think i may have the same setup as you, 4'' in teh front 6'' in the dash
go to www.crutchfield.com and search for polk audio db401 and polk audio db6500. this is what i bought. they have great prices, and mention my name rion marcinko and get 20 bucks off!
as far as installation goes, i have a link somewhere that osiris made.
he has a write up on how to install the speakers..
check it out, let me know if you want more info, ill subscribe

By some foam pads that you don't mind cutting up (not expensive) from a hobby store. Glue them together and cut the foam piece to fit down by the kick panels, in the corner. Shape them to your liking by cutting them and shaving them. Make them big enough for your speakers, but small enough to leave room for clearance.
This creates a mold, now cover the mold in silicone or aluminum foil.
When your done with that step, take a fiberglass resin and cover the mold.
After the cast dries (a couple of coats of resin) cut the mold to fit the speakers of your choice, paint it the color you want, wire it in, mount it in place.
You can also use carpet instead of paint.
Sorry, no pics, but you get the idea. It's really not too difficult.

Let me save you alot of work and time. I had to upgrade from the factory setup, 4" speakers aimed at your knees are a joke no matter who makes them. heres kick panels enclosures for a second gen but they fit pretty easily into my first gen. holds a 6.5 and a tweeter. cant recall what I paid for them just search crutchfield.com.

They have since been painted to match my interior. Good luck!
