how to add a tachometer

As title says, how exactly would you add a tach to the dash?

Since im pretty sure it's possible, is it easy, cuz I really don't wanna have to go tearin my engine apart to install it...

Second question... any1 know where to get a cheap FULL distributor? Not lookin for after market, just OEM and the full thing, cuz my entire one is busted and cracked T_T

^ hahahaha

yeah, you dont have to "tear" into your engine to install a tach. i think the yota's run off the dist for rpm tach. And your best bet to find a dist is the junk yard

thats what I did, I just kinda wanted to know RPM to optimize gas mileage n' stuff. Besides, the pedal starts vibrating when I get to too high of RPMs

Tachs are cool though, the_ocho

But like he said, just shift when it quits pulling as hard.
Also, you can shift by speed. The recommended shifting speeds for the 22re (im pretty sure the 3vze is the same) is 1st to 2nd at 15mph, 2nd to 3rd at 25mph, 3rd to 4th at 40mph and 4th to 5th at 45mph. These are the "recommended" speeds to keep optimal fuel economy.

Hm. I think I remember the owners manual saying 4th to 5th at 45, I could be wrong. Of course I don't follow that, I don't even use 5th anymore, and rarely 4th

Just grab a cluster out of a similar (generation and engine) vehicle to yours that has a tach in the cluster (typically an SR5 model). It'll have a tach in the cluster right next to the speedometer and also will have an oil pressure gauge (you'll need to grab the oil pressure sender below the oil filter and swap that into your truck as well).

adding an aftermarket tach is fairly simple: connect the signal wire to the tach to the - terminal on the coil.

you'll have more issues with getting the backlight on the tach to dim with the dash lights than you will getting it to display RPM's.

SR5s weren't the only trim with tachs and oil pressure gauge, right? My '93 DLX has those, and its not SR5 swapped as far as I know. I mean, they were probably options on DLX, right? and standard on SR5?

Seconded. Never got mine to dim. Lights up with the lights though, just not on the dimmer.
