Hesitation 2-3K only when it rains

My truck hesitates between 2-3k RPM. It feels like it doesn't get enough fuel. Below 2k and above 3k its fine. The weird part is that it only does it when it rains. It happened the 1st time when I washed the car. It went away after 10 minutes of driving. I just though it was some freak thing. but today when I drove in the rain, the same thing happened after driving 5 miles or so. It never does that when its dry. Anyone has an idea what it could be? Is something getting wet thats why its doing it? I checked the air filter and it was dry so thats out. I cant think of anything that water would affect for only 2-3k RPM range. THA

Well I am dum as it is,but could water be getting into your distributor? Every time I washed mine it would ether suck or not start until I found out water was getting in to the distributor thru a broken seal.

It could also be your TPS. I've seen that happen a time or two.

Thanks everyone. Well I checked the distributor and the plugs. Everything is dry and its not raining in LA anymore, but the issue is still there. Maybe its not related to water and its just a coincidence. Not sure since I had this problem when I washed the truck about a month ago and had the same problem, but it went away and teh truck was running like a champ until it started raining. Whats weird is that the problem happens when its in 1st and 2nd gear between 2-3.2K rpm. In 3rd and 4th its fine. Oh and the motor shakes pretty bad when the RPM gets to 2k. Its fine at idle and above 3-3.2k.

Just remembered, few months ago my mechanic said that the exhaust manifold has a crack. Do you think that would cause this problem?

So I changed the cap, rotor and the wires, all OEM. The motor is more eager to rev now and 80% of the problems went away. Now there is some hesitation between 3K-3.3K. I changed the plugs too and it's the same. Funny thing is that as soon as i hit 3.5K its like there is a turbo that kicks in. The truck surges forward like it just got another 20 horses. Not sure where to go from here. The fuel filter is new so that cant be it.

hmm this is interesting, I seem to have the same problem. Im not sure what rpm it kicks in though. But lower rpms its sputters a long till it just kicks in and takes off. I posted a similar thread and some people mention the distributor (which i see you replaced) but I know someone also mention to me the throttle position sensor like Gnarly said

Yeah changing the cap rotor and the plugs helped somewhat. Now the truck runs rough from 3-3.5k but only after the 1st 5 mins of driving. After that its fine. According to my mechanic the exhaust manifold is leaking, but I doubt thats whats causing the problem. A friend had a similar issue with his Jeep and it was a shorted wire so I'm looking at all the wires to see if I can find the issue. The fact that it does not do this all the time doesnt make it any easier to troubleshoot. I'm thinking about cleaning or replacing the TPS too, but it looks like a PITA to take out.

I'm having the same problem with my '95. I just washed it and almost immediately afterward I started getting hesitation - almost as if it wasn't getting gas. I thought it might be the tranny but it happens when in neutral as well. I haven't checked the cap or wires yet but it almost has to be related to the wash as it ran perfectly before.

Ive been trying to track down the same problem with mine, no idea.

Ive checked;

TPS
Cap/Rotor/Distributor
Timing
ECU
Wiring harness/Plugs
Airbox/Filter
Fuel Filter
AFM
EGR
O2 sensor

Seems like my truck only does it when its raining or im driving though puddles wheeling. I thought it was a wet distributor for sure but its not. Very Strange, my truck is running perfect right now, we'll see what happens when it gets wet next. Evidently, something on our trucks doesn't like moisture.

try using dielectric grease on the diss cap and spark plugs and both ends of the plug wires. if that doesnt help the next thing id be looking at would be the iginitor and coil to make sure the plugs on them were still good i thought my iginitor went out but really what happend was the wires on the plug were loose and werent staying in contact after some sauder and RTV truck ran great again. it does sound like when you get to the magic rpm the motor has a bit of a shake that moves a wire or something and causes the problem yall are having and the higher the rpms in the motor are smoother and so which cause the wire or wires to settle back to where they need to be and the motor runs smooth again
