Unhappy Help with starting problems

Lately I've been having intermittnet problems with starting my truck 22re. It'll crank but act as if the battery is bad. Just turns over real slow. Seems if I pump the gas pedal it'll fire up insted of running the battery down. I get 14v at the battery while the engine is running like the alternator is good but I noticed that my voltage gauge intermittnely drops down to around 10 volts while driving down the road. Could my voltage regulator be going out? Also, because of the way it acts when I pump the gas, does the '91 pickup have a cold start injector? I believe the voltage regulator is internal to the alternator but where is the cold start injector located? If I have one.
Thanks in advance for any help ya'll can give.

Pumping the gas? That's a leftover from the dark days of carburetors (pumping the gas worked the accelerator pump, which enrichened the mixture). It doesn't do anything with a fuel injected engine.

You have a CSI, and can find out about it here: http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b...29coldstar.pdf

The voltage regulator is internal to the alternator.

If it "crank[s] as if the battery is bad," your problem is probably not with the fuel system, but the starting system. Try measuring the voltage at the battery when you crank it. If you get 12+ volts while it cranks, you're not putting enough current into the starter (suspect a wiring or solenoid problem). If you get < 9v while cranking, then the battery is probably low (or bad).

Yeah definitely could be a wiring issue... Check the cables, grounds etc.. starter contacts. Make sure none are covered with that green corrosion crap.

LOL. Thanks for the replies. I guess pumping the accelerator pedal is exposing my age. I had heard it does nothing on a fuel injected engine but when it's -10 outside and the bitch won't start I'll try anything. The starter is new and the battery and alternator are both within a year old and just recently cleaned alll the connections between battery and starter. Figured the voltage dropping off (according to the gauge) while running down the highway at 2500 rpm would/could be a voltage regulator problem.
Drove about 5 miles to the gas station this morning, shut it off to pump gas and had to get a jump to start it. I'll check out the link you sent me and try to change swap out the battery tonight. Maybe it's just not taking a charge
