help - shock hitting suspension
installed 5" RC suspension lift - went wheeling heard a loud metal scraping noise when turning hard right uphill & found this - any ideas of how to prevent?

put that rough country where it belongs, in the dumpster behind the local smut shop. looks like the shock is rubbing that bump stop? have you tried calling rough country and asking them? looks like a design issue to me, did you have to relocate anything to squeeze that giant block in between your control arms? keep in mind that your suspension was never meant to be altered in such a way, so RC should have parts to move things around.

I didnt do anything to fit lift block -
Only changes from as bought condition were doing lift & increasing tire size from 265/75/15 to Dynapro MT LT305/70/16 Alignment was good before changes and was done after too.
I did note that Shock was 1/4" from top of bump stop frame. I heard a loud scraping noise when I made a sharp right turn uphill into a driveway and thats when I noted the damage to shock housing.
Only thing I can think of is back spacers for the rims? Which are not OEM
Ive talked to RC and their "engineering" have yet to respond
FYI - I researched the hell out lifts -Emu, Procomp, Marlin, BJ spacers etc.. RC was the one I chose so I didnt have to pay half as much as the kit cost- in shipping costs!
The money not spent on lift has been applied to Detroit lockers and upgrading everything else in driveline, (re-gearing from 4.10 to 4.88's)

yes a better picture would help. as for the lift quality, RC has been around for a long time so I don't really have an issue with the materials, I just don't agree with drop bracket ifs lift. it doesn't gain you any wheel travel, and it usually causes more problems than anything imho. as someone stated above, if it wasn't doing it before and you hit a bump and now it is rubbing, you probably bent the shock.

Man, 5" is a lot of lift.. back when I had an '88 4runner with a 3" body lift, I could barely get in it! Couldn't imagine a 5", and the stress that could put on the suspension as well. Probably a bent shock as Rattlewagon and keycw said.

Looks like the bump stop drop block may just need to be turned around. Is the mounting hole in the middle or offset to one side? Looks like the pass side may stick out a little farther than drive side?
Its rubbing on the drop block right? Not the factory bumpstop mount?

could right side be sticking out causing the shck to rub becaiuse I installed manual hubs and vacuum locked the ADD ?
I am scratching my head at what cause is! - I'm going to pull shock this weekend and see if it is bent -
this aint 1st 4x4 "i've modified!

Not saying their isn't a problem but I have never been impressed with rough country. They have always been poorly designed and components always smash into things. Had a Jeep XJ come into work one day with a 6" RC lift. The upper links on the front would knocked a hole in the oil pan about 3/4 of the way on compression.

Assuming the frame is straight it's a simple tweak of the dropbracket install and a proper alignment.
You can have perfect caster, chamber, and toe and not be centered on the frame. A 4x4 friendly alignment shop might have pointed this out for you. A shop that does four wheel alignment has the tools to tell you your track is off.
You can poke at AKWheeler for a "professional" take on this, I could be wrong.
