Help please.....odd knocking in top of motor

I have a 1994 Yoda 22re and I have a very odd knocking noise coming from the top of the motor I first thought it was just valves but the more i listen its not the valves...here is what its doing

idles and drives great plenty of power at high RPMs right as i need to shift gears it knocks as i let off the gas and as i am driving as i reach higher RPMs it will knock or when i let off the gas to go down a hill or incline but it never looses power I had a mechanic near by who only works on honda toyota listen to it and he said he has never heard this knock in a 22RE

If anyone can help or if you have an idea as to what it may be please leave a post

Thanks

Could be a few different things. Run it and get it up to temp so you can do a valve adjust (if it needs it, doesn't hurt to check) and while the valve cover is off check your timing chain guides/tensioner. Make everything looks okay. if that all looks good/checks, do a compression check and look at the color and amount of the deposits on the spark plugs and report back. These are decent diagnostic tools to see if something isn't right (other than mystery "knocking").
Good luck

I have tried to adjust the valves and also the oil pump water pump timing cover and head are all new the noise is coming from the back of the motor somewhere....just to stand and listen it sounds like the top of the motor is where the noise is however if you stick a screw driver on the head or valve cover you hear nothing................I have not check the compression or the spark plugs yet just wanted to update the new parts and valve adjustment
Thanks

Red face

If you tightened the nuts holding the valve cover to tight it will make a tapping noise

If you have your hand on the valve cover you will feel it

If it is not this .

Is it a knock or more of a rattle from the exhaust from something loose when the exhaust manifold was removed when the head was changed.

I bet it is one of these things.

Dear Rookie, your rod knock won't go away if you place a screw driver on the valve cover. If you hold the head or valve cover and the knock is silent, then it's not your bearings.

if youre not getting metal flakes in your oil, its probably not a bearing, and if you dont have bearings machined to your crank, alot of times theyre just bandaids/ time bombs. its not a permanent fix. doing what everyone else said is easier anyway. check the valve cover, timing chain guides, and be sure you dont have an exhaust leak.
