Actually its not a good idea to take the negative battery cable off the battery while running! On old cars without computers its fine, but the computer on newer vehicles sometimes controls the output of the alternator, so if it detects an open in the circuit, it might bump the amperage up and fry things!!!! Seen it happen, wasnt me (thank god)!!

IMHO its not a good idea, I wouldnt even do it on an old vehicle, its not worth it when you can take it to autozone and they put battery cables on it and test it, plus its free!!

So I was wrong. After much consulting with more knowledgeable friends, we found that it will crank all day long, and the alt is good. we narrowed it down to a bad fuel pump. It aint getting gas. we sprayed starter fluid in the intake and it started to run but quit right when the spray was cut off. Do fuel pumps crap alot on yotas?? I dunno if this thing has ever had a new one put in, but i would think not. How hard is it to drop a tank in one of these things??

you DONT wanna mess with that tank! Boostin chick had a hell of a time gettng hers down. find a line close to the throttlebody and see if your getting gas up there.
then move back to the fuel filter ( also a &^%$)
im free tomorrow if ya need a hand.
under your back seat ( passenger side0 is a acess panel )

Ok this hose comes from a box in front of the power steering reservoir. And it goes to the EFI system. Could this be the reason my baby aint gettin gas?? I was checking the hoses and this thing fell right apart. Friggin plastic!

it might be. ill look at the manual myself
toyotas need their vacuum lines otherwise they dont run right so there is a good chance that might be ONE problem
did you pull a gas line near the throttle body ? see if your getting gas to it ?

you can check you fuel pump by jumping the connector in the diagnos box in your engine i think tis fp +b..

then if you car starts with this jumped its bad wiring or your afm which tells your fuel pump to come on when starting... if it still dont go.. WHEN IT JUMPED try turning the key but dont start you should hear the hiss of the pump..no hiss no pump!

From: Cincinnati, Ohio - Amelia is the exact place. There is no one else on this site from where I am. Seems like everyone is from Cali or Washington. I guess I need to move.
You can go right undewr the throttle body and take a 19mm w/ an extention and loosen the feed line to fuel rail, then have a buddy turn the key to acc, and see if your getting a steady stream of fuel should be able to fill a beer can in about a minute or so, this has always been handy for me, because you can see if the pump and sending unit are working, also you see if there is junk in your fuel lines (bad filter), it only takes a minute but you will need to replace the crush washer (5 to 60 cents) at AutoChevy. If you are getting good flow to the rail then you know it might be fuel regulator or injector issue.

This is just a cheap fast way to get an idea.
