help me 32 or 33? pics!
my 87 turbo runner is in need for new tires and wheels. gearing is 4.88 and engine have tons of power so this doesnt enter in the debate.rear has 2" addleaf, front bj spacers. thing is i cant decide from 32x11.50 or 33x12.5. i need to kill me over gearing 4.88 that is now running 265/75r15.i know the best for this purpose will be 33 but kind of worry of the looks at this lift. thinking to use 15x8 with 4.25 backspace since i dont think will use flares.not going to off road but want some AT tires like bf AT or cooper AT3 any pics of your truck with this size of tires and backspace? really appreciate it.

Nice ride! Tons of pics here with both tire sizes on 1st gen 4runners. Also try google images. I dunno if the 4.25 backspace will be enough for a 12.5 wide tire, but likely ok for 10.5. Another option if buying new wheels is a 16" wheel which gives the option of 255 and 285, 33" tires - both of which are slightly taller and narrower than a 33x12.5 and you can get many brands in the size.

If your not going off road seems like a huge waste of money getting bigger tires for more ground clearance. bigger tires equal, alignment issues more often, wearing out some suspension stuff faster, worse gas mileage, slower acceleration, normally a incorrect speedo, Higher center of gravity, poor breaking performance, and they cost significantly more.
I'm not saying don't get them just seems like an odd choice too me, considering the fact you don't plan to go off road. Your talking about going 3" over stock size.

narrower is better
Lighter and narrower tires are better. Get the minimum diameter tire you need for where you drive.
With 4.88 gearing you could go with either and still be near stock ratios. A few speedometer drive gears are available to help correct your speedometer. I would search to see what combination would make your speedometer correct and consider that too. I like having an accurate speedometer; the odometer is very useful in backcountry way-finding.
However I prefer the narrower tires, though, particularly for IFS. I like the classic look but more importantly, you won't have any issues with rubbing the steering on full lock or have to run any high backspacing wheels which would put unnecessary leverage on your components. Narrower tires are also lighter and you don't want to exceed the stock weight by much (I use 115% as upper limit when choosing tire/wheel combos).
When I ran 31x9.5 on my IFS truck, it was a bit low and I'd hit the rear differential occasionally. When I switched to 33s, I didn't have any problem with clearance anymore, but found the ride too stiff as I had to crank up the torsion bar. I also discovered my bump stops for the first time. So on dirt roads, my 31s were better, for rocks my 33s where better. Maybe 32s would be a good compromise? Depends on what you want to do.
