Okay so I found this clutch set at my local O'reilly's for $100. Would this be okay?

SACHS kit you found is fine, and I considered it...but since I was going to the trouble of getting in there, I decided to spend a bit more and go AISIN (OEM brand). To each their own.

All the advice about replacing the rear main seal, input shaft seal, etc when in there is sound - cheap insurance and you might as well while you're in there.

In one of my writeups I linked to, there's a cool trick I used (not my idea) to remove the pilot bearing from the crank using wadded up water soaked pieces of scrap paper and a small socket - really made it easy.

Yeah, that looks like a slick way to get that sucker out of there!

Alright. So I'm close to dropping my tranny and I've taken off my shifter. Now I have for a while now been driving with my transmission a little funny. Mainly my 3rd and 4th gear tend to feel like they're not going in all the way. They still engage they just don't go in like they used to. Now when I took my shifter off I found what appears to be little rubber pieces in there. I have to pictures showing what it looks like when you look in the hole where the shifter went. Do you guys have any idea where that came from?

Cordrayj1 is right...there is supposed to be a bushing that sits in there on top of the 2 pegs you see. If you don't have one, that crunched up mess you see is what's left.

get a new seat from Marlin - they are $10 (made a huge difference in the slop of shifting). The smaller chunks you see shouldn't hurt anything inside - they will get crunched up more, smaller, and settle at the bottom of your transmission.

there is also another small white bushing on the end of the shifter ball that goes into the trans, that will probably also be missing or extremely worn, when you replace the shifter seat, replace that one too, marlin has both! makes a huge difference!
