Hey all, I could use a little help troubleshooting my truck.

It's a 90 4Runner with the 3VZE, auto.

This morning, I went to start it up and she won't turn over. Last night was the last time I drove the truck and it seemed fine. We did have a pretty chilly evening last night. But I know it's not the battery for two reasons:
1) I just changed the battery in August
2) I tried to jump the truck and it still didn't start

It sounds like it's not getting fuel or fire. In fact, it sounds like my Accord wagon when the coil pack died. So, I ran out to the store and got an Accel coil pack....nothing! I took out my multi-meter and tested the ignitor and coil pack with the key in the 'on' position. Both are putting out a solid 11.8-12.2 Volts

I did a little reading here and decided to test the fuel system. Using this method:

I only got to the first test at the DLC1 and that checks out. I was seeing 11.X volts across the jumpers.

I also checked the EFI and IGN fuses, those are fine.

I did listen for the fuel pump spinning up when I put the key in the on position, didn't hear anything. But I'm not sure that I would hear anything in this truck. In the event it is the fuel pump, do I really have to drop the fuel tank in this truck? I just filled the tank last night. Not sure where I can put all this gas....

So, where do I go from here?!?!?

 

check the positive and negative batterey wires first. eliminate the cheap easy fixes first.

 

So, I just went out and confirmed that my positive and negative were connected correctly. Although, I'm not sure what was accomplished. I haven't messed with them since I put the battery in 4 months ago.

 

I couldn't get my truck to start. when I pulled back the insulation on the wires, there was a lot of corrosion between the individual copper strands. The terminals were on tight and good, but the wire itself was faulty.

 

Hmmm...starter? Does it click?

 

my fuel pump went out in my Tahoe last month. Called my Chevy mechanic buddy for help, told me to take a rubber mallet and beat the crap out of the tank around the middle while someone turns the key to start. Just dont hit so hard to dent he said.

Truck started on 4th whack.
If it does start he said i had who knows how long till it goes out for good.

No fuel wouldn't cause it to not turn over. I mean, it could turn over and no fuel would cause no combustion. If the starter is not engaging, then it wouldn't turn over. Then again, the ignition switch could be bad.

To check for fuel, take the cold start injector loose and see if you have fuel there. If so, atleast you're getting fuel delivery. Injector pulse is another story. But, first figure out why it won't turn over.

I feel so stupid, it was an easy fix. But I had it towed and the shop found it. Atleast AAA covered the tow...
