A little history: I bought my '95 pickup brand new. At the time I decided not to have AC installed. A few years later, after unexpectedly moving to Houston, I drove straight to the dealer and had factory air installed.
Fast forward to now, there is a leak in my evap coil. I got an aftermarket one from O Reilly to put in. My shop said it didn't fit so they tried to source an aftermarket one too. Five cores later...none of them fit. The shape is right, but the tube diameter is wrong and so is the thread.
I have a call in to the service rep, who still works at the dealership, to see if he has any insight. All I have to go by is this number on the old core, but a search comes up with zero.
Does anyone have an answer to this mystery??? I'm not even sure if I order one from the dealer whether it will fit...
I come up with part# 88501-04010 (says fits 92-95) or 88501-04020 (says fits 94-95).
Both say now replaced by 88501-89111 which says fits 89-95.
THANK YOU for looking that up!
I ran into a stroke of luck when I started looking up my receipts. Just so happens that when they installed the kit, the evap in the kit was leaking. So there was a separate ticket for a replacement evaporator that had the part number on it
The kit was 00883-35942 (which I found on the internet for 6-700 bucks...I though about just getting the whole thing once I saw how much the evap core was)
The evap core they replaced had the pn 88501-34010
Probably because mine was not a factory install but rather, a factory kit installed after the fact. Must have had some part variations.
Just for fun, here's how much I paid for a factory kit installed at a dealership in 1998 (it lasted 22 years!! Not bad): $1248 out the door
The evap core I'm buying is $345 (one of only 6 in the US in the Toyota system). I found it for cheaper elsewhere online but decided to get it from the dealership I'm familiar with in case it still doesn't fit for some odd reason. I'm a little gun-shy at this point...
Oh wow, I just figured out what was going on by stumbling upon an old thread on this board (I wasn't really even looking for)
Basically, my truck would have likely gotten R-12 at the factory, but the kit that they put on my truck was R134. That explains the difference in tube diameter. From the thread:
"The Toyota part # for R12 is 88501-89111. R134 is 88501-34010"
Were you ever able to find the evaporator for your truck? I have run into the same problem and it looks like the Denso evaporator that I need is no longer available from the dealer or aftermarket. I have tried several other part numbers for aftermarket evaporators and none of them work with my suction line. The end of the suction line on my truck is slightly flared, which does not allow it to enter the opening on the evaporator.

The one I got from the dealer did indeed work. Note all the caveats above
