94 evaporator fitting difference

I have a 94 pickup 4wd 22re reg cab. I removed a/c evaporator and expansion valve due to horrible mold issue, and decided to replace both. I ordered an evaporator core and expansion valve from advance auto, and the expansion valves wouldn't bolt up to my a/c line. I tried napa with the same results. I searched and found a thread about the denso expansion valve that I needed (Toyota changed something after Jan. 94) and got it ordered. It is an exact match to the factory one. Now I see it won't bolt up to the aftermarket evaporator core fitting. Any ideas on where I can get a core that will fit this denso valve, or has anyone else dealt with this specific issue? Thanks in advance...Let me know if you need pics and Ill try to post some.

The reason they are different is that the A/C changed from R12 to R134 during the 1994 model year. IIRC, the R134 expansion valve fittings are larger than the R12. You are trying to mix parts from both types of refrigerant. Make sure that you get all the parts from either before 1/94 or after 1/94. The part numbers for R12 will be the same as the 1993 listing, the R134 parts are the same as the 1995 4Runners and old style Pickups.
If it is like mine, there is a yellow R134 sticker under the hood to tell you that you have the newer system.
BTW, anyone know if there another place to get the hard A/C lines that go from the condenser to the receiver/drier, other than the dealer?

That makes sense. Im still looking for the correct evaporator though. These parts houses around here keep telling me thats the only one they show through 1995. I dug up one internet source that shows a different evaporator for 1/94 after, and it shows its the same as the t100s. I have a hard time believing that. Any clue on a source for the correct evaporator? Im gonna get back to searching more internet to see what I can come up with. Thanks for the information too...

[COLOR="White"]From the online parts diagrams, it looks like the R134 evaporator is Toyota part number 88501-34010. R12 is 88501-89111. The R134 model fits Pickups, 4Runners and T100s. If you search the internet, you will find companies that make a replacement. The other thing to look for is that the R134 evaporator is a serpentine design, while the R12 is finned aluminum. .

The Toyota part # for R12 is 88501-89111. R134 is 88501-34010. Make sure which refrigerant you have, then search the part number on the internet. you will find replacement evaporators for that OEM part number
The other thing to look for is that the R134 evaporator is serpentine ahile the R12 is finned aluminum.
