Head gasket how to

Just bought a 94 4Runner V6 189000 miles. Drove it for 2 weeks and I believe the head gasket blew. White smoke and power loss. Only went about 2 blocks from cranking until stopping. Any and all help would be appreciated. Not quite sure what parts I will need and which gasket kit. Gonna try and do it myself.

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say you need a head gasket set for a 3VZE Toyota V6.

I was just answering your question:

I just did head gaskets a few months ago. It's a fun job. Good luck with the exhaust manifolds. If the bolts are rusty you might as well forget about removing the crossover peacefully. I'd look into some headers so you can just cut the crossover and you will have solved one major flaw of the 3.0 exhaust system, gained a couple HP, and saved yourself several hours, busted bloody knuckles and at least a couple gray hairs. Other than the exhaust and the power steering brackets the rest is cake.

Could always see if Toyota will do it under the recall if they haven't already.

Thanks, Toyota did the gaskets in 98. I made it past the power streering pump today. Who makes a set of headers that will fit the 3.0 that are reasonably priced?

some say MLS headgaskets. i went with the factory V06 recall kit. i just got done doing mine. the only advice i can give is to get those heads decked, valve job and adjusted by a good machinist no matter how good they look. aluminum on steel block.....well we know what happens there. make sure you do the 90 degree torque. i forgot to do mine and had to a bunch of stuff off and do it. get yourself a factory manual that way you know what order to take everything off. and last but not least TAKE YOUR TIME, dont rush. any help drop me a line.

I bought Doug Thorley headers from Summit. It was like $524 shipped. I can't say I like the sound of my exhaust, but I'm not about to change it now.
