Hard to start 22re when in the cold

I have a 93 pickup witha 22re in it and had a hard time starting it when in the cold. It took me 10+ cranks in order for it to start. I've ask this question before and i remember somebody said something about removing some plug and sand it down. So i did it and still the same in the cold. But anyways, now my real question is could it be the fuel filter or my injectors cus my old motor is gone now (do to my stupidity, i never changed the motor oil in it when i loaned it to my bro for a few months) and i have another 22re in it, reason i asked is cus one of my friend have very low knowledge in auto said i should change out the fuel filter or get the injectors clean. What does yotatech think i should do? Thanks in advance...other than the cold start the truck runs great

does it try to turn over at all, during these 10 cranks or no? if it is cranking over, does it seem to be weak cranks, like the battery is barely putting out enoughpower to the starter?
In either case above , it is starter related- either it is going out all together, or when these starters get some age on them, they get cranky in cold weather, the plunger doesn't wanna come all the way out, or not at all the brushes don't make good contact with each other, lots of little things. the hardest part of the starter repair is getting it off in the first place. otherwise any take down manual on these is pretty good, and their is a good link on here somewhere to take the starter apart, and another good link to show you the new parts/brushes/stuff
you wanna get for a good rebuild. A few hours labor yourself for the rebuild, and about 50 bucks in parts. Otherwise a shop is going to charge you 200 to 250 for a new/rebuilt starter, including labor. And if yo uget a shopto do it, make sure you get a toyota OEM starter, or a Denso starter, any other starter won't be near as good.

My starter just went out on me, lasted 250k miles and 22 years though...

check the cold start injector. also have your battery and alternator tested. my alt belt was slipping a bit so the battery wasnt fully charging and that caused my cold start issue.

If you have never changed the fuel filter, it would be a good idea to do it, they can get plugged up over a period of time and if it the original fuel filter it long past due needing to be changed.

have them tested anyway. advance auto can do it for you quite quickly. they can test both without being removed but the alt check isnt as reliable. if they get any kind of bad alt reading id pull the alt and have it tested on their machine. if it actually checks ok you may need to replace its wires.
