Im sure it would cost an arm and a leg to ship a set of doors all the way up here. Toyota parts fetch a premium around these parts. Kind of a mixed blessing.

your doors look awesome grant. i love the look of your truck.

so progress is almost none, im sanding both the doors to paint them up with a decent matching white and i have all the door linkage done and the doors open and close and lock. Im working on some quick disconnects right now, i have one done outta the four. i plan on painting the doors within this week, finishing the hinges tomorow after school.

then:

door panel of some sort
go back and add cupholders
eventually a vinyl window of some sort, that im waiting on till i build my can-back like top, i have it all planned out and can do it but lack funds. like a hundred dollars, maybe a little more.

I would love to help... I work in a sheet metal shop. So I get unlimited supplies of scrap metal. I love the doors. Not bad for being under a budget. I don't like cutting my rig. I'm fine with just having the option of a convertible top. Gotta love the 1st gens. If you need metal ideas, ask me. I'm good with sheet metal.

Your doors look great! Nice Job.
How did you make your new hinges? Did you use the stock hinge and replace the pin with a removable one? I want a set, but $65 seems kinda steep! lol

Also, you mentioned wanting to make some vinyl windows for it. Have you put much thought into how your going to attach them to the window frame? I keep thinking snaps, but am afraid the wind will catch them while driving.
I was discussing this with a buddy last week, and he suggested getting some heavy duty velcro (kinda like a newer jeep soft top).
I'm thinking a combination of both. the snaps will give most of the hold, but the velcro can keep the wind from getting a good hold while driving and also create a little bit of a seal.

Ya, the mistake I made when cutting mine down was not leaving the stock mirror mount. I cut right down the middle of where the stock mirrors wanted to mount. Ooops!

Keep us posted as you continue to make progress and improvements.
Hope you enjoy them!

Interesting! Mine stock pins are worn out anyway.

Thanks! I hadn't thought about doing that until I saw your post this morning.

almost done :)

so today i finally made some progress
i made my door panels! nothing fancy, but they get the job done.
i picked up some different hinges "D" shaped and i like them better
cause the pin is attached to
the locking pin, ill take a pic tomorrow to explain.

now i just have to do touch up paint, and cut
the last two hinges and i should have them on
tomorrow afternoon, last bit should take maybe a
half hour. ive been thinking about just buying a plastic
cup hold and mounting it to the inside of the cab on the door,
not sure though.

Looks Great! What did you use for the inner panel? Particle board?

Are you referring to the pins for the hinges?

Do you remember what size pins you're using?
Is there much play in the hinges with your pins?

When you cut the pins in the hinges, how did you do it? Grinder to both ends of the pins?

Thanks!

P.S. Post of pic with them on, when you get them mounted up.

no progress today, got called into work i dont have a day off till thursday.

i believe it was particle board, ill look for the tag.

i was referring to the pins for the hinges, im using 5/16 by 2 1/2, dont get two, you have to grind the hinges and they seem weak and thats why i got new pins. there is minimal play but when i close the door you cant even tell i cut the stock ones.

i just sawzalled the stock ones off while on the truck just have to be careful to not cut the fenders or anything, then i stuck a flatblade in the middle of the pin, tapped it out with a hammer then stuck the new pin and hammered on it to push the other pin straight out the other side so i didnt mess up the brass bushings.

i'll have them mounted thursday hopefully

Yay!

WOO!!!!

so i took some tools to school today and finished the hinges after school before work!!! YAY!
now i just have touch up paint Thursday and there ON!
OMG! finally, two day project turns into 4 weeks or something ridiculous...
heres a pic of the hinges and the "D" pins i was talking about

"D" pin

They seem to have a little play with the door open, but with
the door closed you would have no idea they weren't the stock pins in the hinges. oh, the pins were
$2.59 each at ace, so like $12 for these instead of $8 like the other ones
i got, but i prefer these ones way more then the clevis pins i bought. $12 is still less than $65 tho
the last time i checked

Those look good.

There isn't any interference with the keeper ring on the pin and the door?

the top of the pin doesnt have enough clearance with the bolt that holds the hinge to the door, but I'm just gonna find some low profile bolts that dont have that dish on the top of the bolt and the pin will clear fin. as for the keeper ring, i thought the door wasn't going to close at first because it seems to be in the door jam but they close just fine, no problems.

Not the first to do this, but thx Machabees (exactly what i had in mind about the cold!) haha in az... cold...

I finished them today! Finally...

right now they need: touch up paint, recessed cupholders, and a vinyl window, all of which im gonna do in the summer while im making a full top

Friday is test day! gonna see how cold it still is since i leave for school at 6:20am, then im gonna take them off probably until it warms a bit, cause i dont think my gf is gonna like freezing on the way to school haha. def. on all summer tho!!!

all in all, ive spent:

$50 on doors (sold tube doors for $50, so even)
about $10 on spray paint
$8 on first set of pins
$12 on second set (ones im using)
$4.50 on door panel material
$5 on bolts for the hinges that wont catch the pin
Total= $40 on half doors
could have been a little over $30 if i had got the right pins from the get go.

oh yeah one last thing, i bought a couple extra bolts for the hinges and ground the tops down so now the pin doesnt catch the top of the bolt that holds the hinge to the door. i'll get a pic if anyones interested. thats it.
