H4 upgrade?

Hey folks, I'm about to replace headlight bulbs after sinking the front end of my truck in a puddle and I'm hoping that y'all can help me find a solution for my dilemma.

9004s SUCK at throwing any good light down the road. Older 4Runners with their sealed beams have some great solutions it seems, but I have a 1993 with interchangeable bulbs and housing.

Is there a good NON-HID solution? I was thinking of a H4 harness kit but won't I have to upgrade my housings?

Yes the harness is an essential retrofit that would surely help minimize power loss on the "convoluted path" the power takes to get to the bulbs. It will also help extend the life of your dimmer-combo stalk switch.

No need to change your housing. You can either:
1) Make your own harness using the proper 9004 connector to mate with your choice of bulbs (

), OR
2) Buy harness online with 9004 connector, OR
3) Buy H4 conversion harness and replace the H4 connector with one for your bulb.

Wow! Great link. I saw a harness earlier but now I'm wondering how difficult it would be to make my own. Thanks RAD!

I would most definitely upgrade the harness, and then find a decent quality LED headlight bulb to put in your housings. I run them in my 4runner and my wifes pilot.

I need to find some LEDs that don't throw out so much damn blue. I hate blue lights coupled with an old car--looks tacky. On top of that, I don't wanna be that idiot blinding other drivers.

I'm just happy I don't need to hack up housings.

4crawler looks like they have an excellent harness but its backordered right now.

EDIT:

I found this harness on eBay. I plan is to chop off two of the H4 connectors and replace with a 9004 connector. This is exactly what I need.

Mine do have a very slight blue hue, but are mostly white. The way LED "throw" light is just like normal bulbs, unlike HIDs which just splash light everywhere. I too don't want to blind other drivers that is why I went LED as opposed to HID.
