We do as our 35" tires make the speedo off. Troy got a Magellan, but it is kinda jinky sometimes. I've hear good things about Garmin though!

Garmin.

Look up Magellan's customer service, and I've personally never seen or used one I like.

My Garmin, I'll fight to protect to the death!

I love love love love love my old TV looking Garmin...

Look up (google) whether they're good to use as speedo's tho... I'm too tired to explain it.

A gps is more accurate than most stock speedos too.
Garmin, all the freaking way. Check out the Garmin Oregon 450T. It's around $350 but it's a great multi purpose unit. I love my 450.

Which is the lowest cost Garmin unit that can be plugged into the cig lighter/or ground and fusebox since the lighter blew out, that would be just for speedometer use?Not worried about getting lost...that's always an adventure. Thanks for the replies.

I got the Magellan RoadMate 1470 as a gift from my father-inlaw this Christmas. It has the speedo on it as well as a compass. What I like about it is that after I select a route and I go off the route, it just picks the next road/street and doesn't tell me that it is re-directing me like some of the others do. Before I got this one, I was looking at the Tom Tom.

So far I haven't had any problems with it but, have read some reviews on the Magellan site and some people are not very impressed that you don't get a lot of secondary roads on it. All I can say is so far so good, it was $285 cdn.

You could always use a iPod/iPhone or Android w/ speedo app. mine worked pretty good and was accurate.

WalMart sells a $99 Garmin unit that has tells you not only how fast you're going, but what the speed limit is on the road you're on, plus it has bluetooth so you can take your phone calls through it, hands-free (assuming your phone is compatible).

I'm seriously thinking of getting one of these, but one question I have is, do you have to mount them on the windshield in order to pick up satellites, or can you mount it somewhere else or have it sitting on the seat next to you?

Reason I ask, is that I have heard a ton of people in the product reviews mention that their GPS was stolen, and mounting it to the windshield seems like an invitation to to have your truck broken into.

GPS on my phone works right next to me so I can't imagine a Garmin having to be near the windshield to get any better of a signal, but I could be wrong.
