Nope that is the one I bought!
and i lost the windshield mount for a while and had to set it on
the passenger seat. worked just fine.
And it is very easily removable from the windshield.
I just take it down every time i get out of the truck.
and it even saves the fastest you've ever gone with the GPS on!!

Mines the 255wt too; I love it!
I had mine half-way hard wired into the truck. I hard wired in a 3-outlet 12v "hub" to come on with the ignition, plugged the cord into it, and routed the cord up inside the dash and up to the corner it's in.

I find that our Magellan can't find addresses about 10% of the time. Unacceptable IMHO. Though it does help with the ticket thing.
Our next purchase will be a Garmin for sure.
And it has to be removable, because in Houstron your car will get broken into even for a 100$ GPS. So just a thought if you want to "wire" one in.

So with the lower-priced Garmin units like the 255wt, can you update the maps for free, or do you have to pay to do that? Or is there even any need to?
Re the fuse box set up, couldn't you splice into something like the tail light fuse, so that it only gets power when the ignition is on?

you get 1 free map update when purchasing new, if you purchase used your locked into that map that is on the unit unless you wanna spend the money on the map update, in which it's just cheaper to buy a new unit. With WT though you get free lifetime traffic.

They took a GPS, a couple other little things, and a bottle of percocet.
These stupid kids actually threw the hole bottle of percocet in the trash..

I would imagine that since these things typically get used in a cig socket that if you were to hard wire it directly to the wiring meant for the cig lighter socket you would be fine without having to use that tap. Or just put a new socket in.

You NEED to hardwire in a 12v outlet, and just plug the factory Garmin cord into it.
The GPS unit itself only takes in 5v, not 12, and the factory cord has resisters built in at the plug-in part that plugs into the 12v outlet to drop the voltage down. If you just snip the cord and hardwire it to the truck, you're going to kill the GPS unit by dosing it with more than twice the voltage it's suppose to take.
Of course unless you want to fumble with taking apart the factory cord to see what OHM rating resister is in there so you can match one up, or just removing and using the factory resistor, and hardwiring it in with an in-line resister. I just think it's easier to wire in a 12v outlet and keep the factory cord in tact.

Yes the fellow at the Kragens/o'reilly auto parts just showed me that 12v outlet which somehow plugs into that add-a- circuit and then to the fusebox.Which fuse slot to use though?

Garmin Nuvi
I have a Garmin Nuvi 205 in my truck, and a Nuvi 1100 in my Durango. Prices range from $80 to $100 at Wal Mart. I don't know what I'd do without them. I follow the speed on both GPS units since I have over size tires on both my rigs and the speedos are off. I've been using them for over a year now and haven't been pulled over once. (I had gotten pulled over a few times for speeding before that)

Now have a noise in the speedometer cluster that goes away with the truck in neutral and clutch pushed in..is it the input shaft bearing and would that have caused the speedo cable gear to get chewed up?
