good protective oil for fresh 22re's?

I read through a massive thread about oils and the need for adequate zddp and have started using rotella T6. The thing is its a 5w40 and my truck only has about 10k miles on it and I find the 40 weight a bit heavy for my climate (vancouver, BC)

Anyone know of a good protective oil (like the T6) that's maybe a 5w30?

I like Full synthetic especially as the oil is peing pumped through a turbo

Thanks

If you want to stick with Shell products, they make a Formula Shell full synthetic 5w30. Rotella T6 is made for diesel applications. If you go the synthetic 5w30 route, then you could probably choose most any brand, IMHO.

The diesel application is good because it has high zddp. most oils do not have high zddp that is required for these high pressure valve tappets/rockers…

If you read my first post I'm looking for oil that has adequate ZDDP

I just run Mobil 1 5w30, when I tore it down nothing looked scarred or scratched. No deposits of junk in either. Just my opinion, but I've been happy with it so far.

I wonder what is so great about zddp compared to the molybdenum found in newer synthetics?

I don't know why I didn't think of this before, but the Shell Rotella T5 10w30 would work for you, and it has a lot of ZDDP in it.

Wink

I didn`t think it got all that cold up there in Vancouver .

I run 20/50 Castrol all year round but it only gets below zero for a few days at a time.

I don't think there is any difference between 5W30 and 5W40 as far as cold weather performance goes.

i was mostly concerned with the fuel mileage…I noticed a pretty big drop when I switched and my engined pretty tight so the 40 isn't of any benefit

Ill check out the T5 thanks

why is 5w40 too heavy for you?
it's a 5 when the engines cold and 40w when the oil and engine is warmed up.
if it gets too cold out you may need a 0w40 or something even stranger.

So, the turbo may like the 40 better than a 30.

So is it a 22RE or is it a 22RET/22RTE or a turbo'd 22RE?
