Glowing Exhaust

First off I seem to keep blowing the 15 amp fuse for the engine on my 1987 4runner 22re,I have checked all the wireing inside the engine compartment all seems tight and in the correct place's, I have also been noticed when the fuse blows my exhaust manifold get glowing red hot. I decided to make a little test instead of putting in another 15a fuse I put in a 20amp fuse { bad Idea I know} anyways gauges all stayed normal but exhaust manifold still was glowing red could issue be a bad O2 sensor on the manifold?

Have you messed with your timing lately?

If its dark out and I've been running the engine for a while my exhaust manifold is red hot too. It scared the ÅÅÅÅ out of me the first time I saw it too.

That sure explains the lack of good paint on my hood I guess...

I would agree to check the timing. Another reason could be a lean air/fuel mixture. Is your rig supercharged?

Check the output from your 02 sensor - you can check it at the diagnostic port.
My guess is bad A/F, incorrect timing, maybe a tooth off...

Regardless, the fuse shouldn't be blowing.

Ok I have had a few other people throw those same answers at me I think the first thing I will check is the cat if I do that route might as well go with a header and all new pipping as well, I'm assuming a o2 sensor is not that exspensive so i will just purchase one and replace it probaly should be done anyways.. No I'm not supercharged by the way. if those don't fix the problem I will go back to the timing once more maybe just take it in and have somebody do it for me if I can;t get it right after the 2nd time then I shouldn't be doing it i guess

If the problem started right after you set up your dist. and you think its off. Before you go throwing parts at the problem take the 10 min. and make sure the dist is instaled right then set your timming to specs. It may not be your problem but at least you will know.
If you are a tooth off the engine would run rough and would not want to idle at all. But if the dist is installed right and the timing is (RETARDED) to much it may idle fine. The idle will be lower than normal.
If your engine is a fresh rebuild then it will run a lot hotter than normal at first because of it still being tight. Not hot enough to overheat or cause your manifolds to get red. But if your timming is off compounded by a fresh engine set up it could be an issue.

All of the other things could be the fault but you need to go back to the seen of the crime (so to speak) and eliminate any human errors 1st.

PS I am a new user and I just have to say all of the info/advice here is great plus I been looking at some of the rigs you guys have. There are some good looking tough trucks here.

I agree, go ahead and check over what you have before you start tossing parts in there. Once your sure the mistake does not lie with the work the first time, then try changing parts.

That is the difference between a mechanic and a parts changer right there. Which, I assure you, is all the difference in the world.

95% of the time a glowing header means retarded timing. Very common problem, this is why most header companys will tell you to break in you motor with a cheap set of headers.

I Replaced Injectors, Fuel Filter Afm,NEW EXHAUST Ect You Can Smell That It Is Running Rich When Cold But Leans Out When It Gets To Operating Temp Does Anyone Have Any Suggestions Can Anyone Help Me With This MOTOR WAS REBUILT LAST MONTH HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE REBUILD DOES NOT SHOW ANY TROUBLE CODES

Dude, what program on your computer capitolizes every word like that?

Is it some form of CAD?

Anyhow, I'd be suspect of either the pickup or the fuel pump...
