Getting closer

I am getting closer to ordering all my suspension parts to lift my 87 runner. Now you guys have talked me out of doing a bracket lift wihich i am thankfull for. So here is what i plan on doing. For the front, i am going to be installing 1.5 in bj spacers, crank the torsion bars down a tad for a smother ride. New shocks and extended brake lines. I am also going to do sway bar disconects and all the necessary adjustments to the bumpstops. Now the rear i was planning on having some custom 3in springs from Alcan for the stock hangers. I was going to do a u bolt flip kit and relocate the shocks to the top of the axel with the sky manufacturing shock hoop. New shocks and brake lines for the rear also.

Now my question, is this rear set up going to give me more flex than i can actually use being it is ifs. Would i be better off going with the downey 3in springs and leaving the shocks in the stock location or would i be happier with the first set up. I just dont want the rear to be out of proportion with the front. Meaning having more flex in the rear than i can actually use. When the suspension is done i am going to install a 1-2 in body lift and some 33-10.50-15 or 33-12.50-15. Then some 4.88 and lockers front and rear. What do u guys think?

Thanks Bryan

from what i know about flexing and IFS, IFS wont give you NEARLY as much flex as a SA. however, in the back is a diff story. you can make the back flex as much as possible. im just not sure if too much flex will be hard on the IFS components and break something, or if it will cause the truck to roll over. not much, but hey, you asked for .02

I understand that ifs is'nt going to flex like a solid axel. My concern is having too much flex in the rear where as the front will hold me up from using all of it. To me it seems kind of dumb to have a bunch of rear flex and very little up front. I just want a set up thet is going to work well with eachother. Oh and thanks for the .02 cents. Any is appreciated.

I think you have a good setup there. I'm looking at doing the same thing, but I think I'm going to go with OME springs just because I wana save $200. I am not going to do shock relocator just yet. I am going to get new shocks and springs and see how that works out for me. Like you said no sense in spending extra cash on stuff you may never take advantage of.

Me and you have almost identical mod plans.

What shocks you thinking of going with? And if you can give me some tips on the sway bar disconnect, I'd appreciate the help.

I have much more flex in the rear than the front and it does just fine. I'd say its better to have the flex somewhere than nowhere. At least that way you'll have 3 wheels on the ground more often than 2. Of course it would be nice to have a SA and have 4 wheels on the ground more often than 3 too, but with lockers 3 wheeling does pretty good.

For shocks i am going with the bilstein 5100's. As far as the diconnects go i have never installed them before so im not really familar with them. I know a lot of people just take the sway bars off all together which i might try but more than likely i will run the disconnects.

Taking the sway bar off altogether is easy, but also kind of a pita. It's like 6 bolts or so. I'm gona try to do disconnects.
