gear and torque

Hi, you all.

I have a 5speed 94 p/u 4X4 with 22re and stock 4.10 gears and 31 tire size. I have to use 3rd gear to climb up hills. I can't even get to 4th gear. Would the 4.88 gear help?

Any suggestions?

4.56s would help, i think 4.88s would be too much.

4.88's would be fine. You would tach 300rpm faster than with 4.56's. You would loose a little high speed cruising abilities but around town and while on the trail your truck will be muuuch nicer!

thanks guys for the advice.

I don't know why. I just got the engine completely rebuilt and put on a brand new header from LC Engineering, new performance clutch, and new camshaft too, but it just can't go up a climb up a hill on 4th gear. I would have to maintain it at 3rd gear at 40mph, when everyone is else is going about 55-65mph.

4.10's are a good match for 28" tires, the 31's put alot of stress on the motor.

are you sure you timed the engine correctly?

get the 4.88s (or maybe even 5.29s!) because like most of us, you'll eventually want 33" or larger tires! nothing wrong with 3rd gear up a big, steep-ass incline, the yota ain't no V8!
