Gear question

I am going to be doing gears on my truck here shortly. I have a 85 axle up front with a v6 third member. the third is my old rear third. anyhow, do I need v6 gears and install kit or 4cyl gears and install? I say the v6, but I want to check before I get the gears.
thanks
Paul

The only difference between the V6 third member and the 4 cyl are really the bearings and carrier. Obviously the V6 bearings are bigger and stronger the gears are the same between the V6 and 4 cyl. They are the same size. You need a V6 installation kit for a V6 third member but make sure the you don't throw away the old bearings because there are a lot of different choices with the V6 bearings and you can give the place that you are buying the gears from the numbers so that they can give you the right installation kit. Most gear places are not willing to give you a refund on bearings that have already been installed so it's best to get the right ones to begin with.
