What type of gear oil do you all use in your diffs? Just looking for some opinons as I plan on draining and refilling mine tomorrow.
A couple other questions:
-How much fluid do the front and rear diff. hold?
-Is there a gasket on the drain plug? I haven't done it recently and I can't remember, just dont want to end up walking to the auto parts store.
Thanks.

This is what and how much I use:

Not sure what the front IFS diff holds, but probably close to what the 8" diff holds.
Drain plug (typically 30mm hex head, use 6-sided socket) has a metal gasket/washer, I've never replaced mine. As long as not damaged or leaking, they seem to work fine to re-use.

I use Mobil 1 80-90. I'm not sure as to the amounts--somewhere around a quart and a half. You can find the info in a Haynes, Chiltons, or Owner's manual. I believe the drain plugs have washers, not gaskets.

I would go with Amsoil Severe Gear 75w90 in you front & rear diffs.
Assuming the front & rear diffs in the V6 Pickups of are the same as the 4runners of our gens (again, assuming - dont' you have your owners manual?), the front diff in my truck holds 2.0 quarts, and the rear diff holds 2.3 quarts. Even if there is a slight difference, 5 quarts should have you covered for the front & rear.

I just put in Amsoil longlife 75w-90 in the diffs and Amsoil Transmission 75w-90 GL-4 in the tranny and transfercase. Shifts great. Just put it in, but my previous experience with Amsoil is top notch.

I do have the owners manual... just thought I'd ask here while I was getting opinions.
What do you think of synthetic gear oils on a truck with 160000 miles?
All I got around here is AutoZone, Checker, Napa and CarQuest, I don't think they sell anything mentioned sofar except Mobile 1.

Right now I have M1 in the diff's and t-case, but Redline MT-90 in the transmission (5spd). As soon as I can stop a couple of leaky seals, Redline is going in everything. I've just been really impressed with the MT-90. But, I suppose out of all the synthetics I've tried (Amsoil included) I couldn't complain. I will say my motor seemed happier with Amsoil (may have something more to do with weight than brand), and GL-4 (no matter brand of synth, I would guess) is the only thing I'd put in the transmission anymore. Silk.
