while doing my clutch job the trans tilted and did a roll over on the jack and started spilling gear oil out of the hole for the shift lever but not sure if it was the lever for the trans or transfer case but what gear oil would i use for each and will i need to completly drain it or can i just add more in. where is the best place to add it and how much do i put in? truck is a 94 4runner 4x4 manual trans

I would just change your fluid if you don't know when it was changed last and with what oil. Just get some good gear oil and just do it. I like the lucas brand stuff.

You should see a filler bolt on the side of the transmission, about halfway up the side.
Remove that, fill it until if pours out the side.

For my W56 manual trans in my 90 I like Redline MT 90. For my transfer case I just use cheap 75W90 or you can use 80W90 weight gear oil.
