Gear Grinding under load on 92 5spd
Well I am new here and have enjoyed reading all the posts I can.
Here is my dilemma with my 92 5spd V6 4WD. I goosed it in the alley and I heard a clunk followed by a loud gear grind sound and loss of drive power. I was able to creep home and barely backed it in to my driveway which is inclined.
I spoke to several people and came up with possible throwout bearing problem. So out comes the tranny and replaced the clutch, flywheel and pilot bearing. Everything back and same thing. Next bunch of mech's come up with must be diff. Replaced it. Same thing. Possibly it is the driveshaft. Had it checked and U-joints replaced. Decided to try it in 4WD with no rear shaft. Same. Must be the tranny. So out it comes again and off to the tranny guy. No problem found. I am now about to scream. Lo and behold i get a call back and they found a coupler between the tranny and tranfer case was cracked. Still have not gotten it back yet. Any one had same kind of thing?
I am in Texas and while doing all this in my driveway at about 105 to 108 degrees I am getting frustrated. lol.

Well news from the tranny guy is that no one has the coupler and it has to be ordered from Japan. 2 weeks as they will not overnight from Japan. So t is 2 more weeks of torture in the Camry (my wifes car). Still not sure what coupler they are talking about.
Oh well at least finally have some thng that is broke.

Damn, the sucks.
I wonder if Japan has a bunch of hard to find parts for the 80's trucks stashed there.......hmmmm

Looks like my tranny guy has fixed it finally. He found a coupler for it. When they got to it the coupler fell apart. Now all I have to do is get back and put it back in the truck. Hope this is it! Gotta be. Makes sense that as it is a pressed on thing that being craked would allow it under pressure to allow for gear slippage.

Well it tranny installed by me took way to long but I got it in. Too tired to finish the rest. It was a bear by myself. Driveway maintenance sucks. I devised a way to help using big tie down straps. No real tranny jack in my corral. Tomorrow maybe will see me mobile again.
