Exhaust Manifold & Piping ?

So, I just found out that my exhaust manifold and exhaust piping has a crack in a few places. I wanted to know if I should just replace it w/ stock manifold and take to a shop and have the piping redone or go aftermarket? I figure since I am going to have to replace I should go aftermarket if its going to help w/ performance at all. Any suggestions or opinions on what I should do at this time? The previous owner already had the O2 sensor and new muffler & exhauset installed. Nothing special was install. So what options do I have?

Thanks
Steve

i had a lce header car sound cat 2.25'' pipe to a delta 40 flowmaster it sure was nice if your dont have money to spend on a header you can have the factory manifold down pipes enlarged to 2''

with a factory setup, does anyone use anything other than the doughnut gaskets between the manifold and the downpipe. i bought some new nuts from toyota and they keep backing off and i can't get rid of the leak between the manifold and downpipe. should i use silicone or just threadlock the nuts?

the stock manifold is a good design, but a GOOD header won't hurt anything, and will unlock a few ponies at the higher end of the powerband. thorley and LC are good headers.

toyaholic, how tight are you putting those nuts on the downpipe? personally i don't use toyota's lock nuts, i get a hardened split washer and a regular hex nut torqued to about 30lbs, works like a charm.

i'll chime in for LCE header. got one on the 4runner and on the tacoma also. very good header on both platforms, definate performance even with stock pipes and muffler from cat back.

i'll be getting a dynomax superturbo muffler and 2.25" pipes on the 4runner in the coming week(s) and will post back with impressions at that time.

Thanks guys! I am going to research some more into the LC & Ice headers. The truck is starting to get worse gas milage. The sound is also starting to get louder as I give the truck gas.

Would I need to replace the whole piping going all the way back from the header down back? Or can i just replace the exhaust manifold w/ new header and first section of piping? The muffler & rear exhaust have only been on for the last 12k miles. Should I just replace the whole system?

Thanks

you dont need to replace the entire exhaust. i didnt go past the cat before (well i did, but i hated the muffler i got so i took it back to the cat and put the oem muffler and pipes back on) and its still a decent improvement on breathe-ability. however, now i am going back to finish the job.

i am always looking for places to save money, i guess i would keep the cat-back if it were relatively new, if i were you.

I agree. I think I would keep the piping from there back if I was you, although I might look at a new muffler. I prefer the Magnaflow's but a lot of guys are running those dynamax's and a few guys with the flowmasters. I've heard a couple of bad things abot the flowmaster sound, but the guys I know who run them, love them. I really like the 18" Magnaflow, the 14" if you want louder, but its pretty drone-happy.
