Gap between 1800-2300 rpm........TPS problem ? --- FIXED !!!

Hello

I have a problem with my 4runner.
If i press the gas pedal continuously , it goes from idle (800 rpm) to 1800 rpm, than it jump directly to 2300 rpm. (the 1800-2300 rpm missing)
Also if i want to keep the rpm at 1800, it begins to drop down to 1200 pm, than back to 1800, again 1200..1800 and so on.
If i go with the car in any gear, and i keep only a little pressed the gas pedal , i feel the same thing as the rpm drop, i have traction ...no traction.....again traction
Can be the problem from the TPS sensor ?

Thanks
Zoli

I'm no expert, but I think it's possible. The internals of the TPS are shown in these photos that I took. Basically you have metal contacts running on resistor tracks (I think...). Both the contacts can wear out and the tracks get dirty, causing bad readings. I'm not sure without doing a little research which terminals to test, but you should be able to hook up a multimeter to a couple of them and measure the resistance between them as you turn the TPS. If you have big jumps in resistance, that could indicate an issue. But I'm not that great with electronics, so maybe someone else can add to this or have some other ideas...

R U sure it's not just a sticky spot in the accelerator/cable?

or maybe your AFM vane has a catch...try a little WD-40 on the contact points...

Bad or out of adjustment. You could try adjusting or hooking meter up and see if it drops in and out, if it does it's bad.

the problem was the TPS sensor.

I adjusted it with an ohm meter (was way out from the specifications).

Now is everything ok.

Thanks for the help.

Great to hear it was just an adjustment, saved expense of a new one. Thanks for letting us know.
