Gangsta lean antenna... Snip it?

Hey guys, I know most anyone that wheels with a solid antenna has the ole wobbly leaning antenna.
I was wondering if I just cut it down to about 2 or 3 inches if I would completely lose any kind of signal?
I'm not too worried about it cuz I can always just Jack in my iPhone and listen to my tunes or the radio that way. I'd like to not have to plug up the phone everytime to listen to the radio though. I want to get a low-pro antenna eventually but funds are severely depleted right now. Just tired of catching every limb, leaf and salamander lol.
Just wondering if anyone has done this and what the results were.

Thanks

My antenna is outright snapped off and I still get okay reception. My standards are pretty low though.

Get a 20 dollar once from shucks. Its short, flexible, and can be unscrewed if theres lots of branches. Easy install too.

Cool, I didn't want to snip it if I was going to lose all recption.
I might even see if I can get the little ball off the tip and try to re-mount it on the stubby.

Careful where the antenna is placed once you cut it, I know a girl who poked her eye on her Ford Probe's antenna and had to get her eye stitched. Lucky she didn't lose her eye. I think the stubby flexible rubber ones would be good. Go to a wrecker and rip one off a car for dirt cheap and wire it up.

I got it cut where I want it now and could barely tell any signal loss except on stations that barely came in and I didn't listen to anyway. I'm very happy now.
I can totally see your point... About the point lol. I wouldn't recommend doing this if you are generally a clumsy person that stubs their toe often... And I do plan on getting a rubber antenna when I find a small one I like and can afford. I'd like something on the scale of those Sirius satelite radio antennas anyone know where to look?

P.S. If you're going to do this, make sure you have bolt cutters! Nothing in my box of goodies would cut it (bolt cutters is about the only tool I don't have). Its some tough metal!!! I wound up having to use the edge of a file and score halfway through all the way around before I could snap it and file it smooth.

Thanks for the input. I think I'm going to get one of those jack in the box antenna toppers just as a precaution.

Just get a junkyard assembly that's tighter.

Like how tight Jay

95% of the time, I don't run any antenna. My reception is fine in the city. I believe there is a secondary antenna in the 4Runner's rear driver's side glass, I think.
