Fun Stuff!!

I am being sarcastic...

My bud just bought a 93 runner, v6 auto for $1500... its a southern truck, with a rebuilt motor...156k on the clock. He saw it on craigslist and bought it without goin to see it, and had it towed to my shop.
When it got here... my jaw dropped... its in mint condition...except.... the timing cover was off, and all the parts were in the backseat... the ad said, truck floods... but runs fine all day once you get it running..... Well...we didnt expect it to be in peices, and I have yet to be able to get her running... I looked at the timing marks, and saw the valve timing was off... so I put it to tdc on #1 cyl( checked the dizzy...was pointing at #1), and lined up the cams.... no start. I can smell gas, and it does bump every so often... I am wondering if the dizzy might be off by a tooth? It dosent sound right when I turn it over... Almost like when you change a t belt and have the cams off by a tooth.... any thoughts or tips guys? I guess it could also be a vacuum line hooked up wrong... I dont know where to start.... I hate working on stuff after someone else has torn into it!!

the dizzy might be at 1 on the exhaust stroke. maybe try turning it 180 when the dizzy is pointing away from 1, take it out, put it back in at 1.. then try to start it?

I got her running!! When it first came into my shop, the valve timing was way out there... I dunno who dod it, but they obviously had no clue what they were doing!! the ignition timing was off a bit also, but not bad enough to move the dizzy....
So now it starts... but not easily, u really gotta crank on this thing to get her goin.... once shes running and warmed up tho.... she runs like a champ alll day, even if u shut her down for a couple hrs, she starts fine....
The po said he replaced the csi.... then again... if he did the timing.... he may not even know what a csi is... I am leaning toward the csi timer, or iac valve.... would the iac cause these hard starts? Any other tips?

CSI time switch or EFI coolant temp sensor.
I had the same problem did not want to start but after messin with the pedal it would finaly sputter to an idle If I touched the pedal it would die. It would stay running for ever.
I fought with it for 2 weeks.
Replace the CSI Time switch and it will start right up
CSI TS part number 89462-20040 $152.87
There are also two water temp sensors for EFI
I belive this one goes to the ecu part number #89422-20010 $60.13
I belive this is for the gauge,part# 89428-14070 $95.45

I would start with the CSI TS you can replace it with out removing the plennum, just climb up on the engine. Be carefull when installing the new one
The deep well socket you have to use takes some finess to remove. I had a used time switch and wasnt carefull enough and broke the connector off

Thanks for the tip!! I'm gonna try to fit my fat hands in there to test it before replacing it... its not my rig, so Im not throwing parts at it..lol
I sure hope thats the problem!! That'd be sweet! Apparently the po has been trying to figure this out for a while, and is why he sold it so cheap.
I'll report my findings later today, or tommorrow... I finally got it ouyt of my shop,.. so now its time to fix my own rigs!!

No luck with the csi timer...

I'm thinking.... this was a florida truck, the po said it started and ran fine when it was warm out, but had trouble starting in fall when it started getting cold.. I did get it started, and restarted after... but when it cooled off again... no luck. This may sound a little nuts... but Ive heard that yota used a couple different starters.. a 1.0kw, 1.4kw, and 1.6kw, the latter being a hd cold weather starter, which one would you think this rig has?? My guess is the 1.0kw being as its a southern truck.
Is there a way to tell which oine it is? I have a junker in the shop, but it dosnt say which kw it is. also.... is there a way to convert the 1.0 to a 1.6? or do I gotta get a new one? Tell me if you think I'm nuts... but this thing just dont sound like its rolling fast enough.
