Fuel gauge doesn't work

Any ideas on a non working fuel gauge in a 1994 xcab 3.0 4x4? A friend of mine just bought the truck and it doesn't work and I don't have a clue about the sending unit or how hard of a job it is to change I was just asking for advice for him

The wires to the sending unit run from inside the cab under passenger seat then through the floor board there. There is a plugin there under the seat. Unplug it and figure out which to wires go to the sending unit. Cross them over and see if the gauge moves. If it does move then the sending unit is bad. If it doesn't move then you have a wiring problem or cluster problem. The sending unit is easy to replace but almost impossible to find.
