you need to pop that splined section out and get an oil seal, then it will work.

or lock the ADD diff in place and run it and you gain an extra 1/2 quart or something fluid capacity.

Yes, but there will be no seal in place behind it. You must install one.

Couple large screwdrivers will pop that stub out. Don't mar the mating flange face.
