A friend of mine that I help with his truck came by the shop with a spare valve cover that he wanted to have powder coated.

He needed to remove the oil seperator baffle from inside so that it could be bead blasted. So I ground off the nubs that were peened over that hold it on and he used the blast cabinet to clean it thoroughly.

We discussed that we would have to drill holes where the nubs used to be and rivet it back on but that could wait until the cover was coated.

Anyhow a week or so went by and he calls up and says he's coming over. I indicated that I wouldn't have time that day to attach the baffle but he said that could wait and he would just stop by.

That afternoon he came by and showed me the valve cover which he had powder coated to match my truck. Needless to say I was suprised. As a lot of you know I've put a good deal of work into my truck In the last couple of years and I've still got several more projects going. But recently things have been moving slowly. I guess maybe I've burnt myself out and it's become a chore. But now I'm feeling motivated again. So look out.

Today work was slow so I pulled my truck in and fixed it so the air box was pulling air from inside the fender. a real cold air intake.

In the pictures below you can see where the inlet duct for the airbox is routed through the inner fenderwell.







Then I installed the "new" valve cover:

Is that air box just a newer 22re one or is it a "special" thing? The one on my 85 4rnr doesn't look like that.

My throttle body air box is painted orange like that. Nothing fancy like powdercoat, just engine paint.

Awesome friend!! I have a bud who wanted me to pull his 1350 merc engine off of his speed boat to put on a 55hp tohatsu, I told him I thought that was a bad idea...but if he wanted it done..I would do it. In return he showed up one day while I was away, and thoroughly cleaned my garage, let me keep the old motor(mostly aluminum so its worth a few hundred in scrap metal), and told me that I could have his 91 yota pickup, with 3.0l for $200(which will prob be covered by the scrap metal from old motor)!!! Yes friends are awesome!!

 

I have two 22re's if you want to drive to Ontario Canada......
