Friction from Steering

So over the past month i've noticed that when the car is cold, there seems to be a ot of friction whenever i'm turning the wheel. Its almost like there's so greasing needed but i have not idea where it'd be needed. Once the car gets warmed up (and i'm assuming the power steering as well) it runs normally. Any ideas what the issue might be?

This is a truck forum not a car forum. But it sounds like your fluid is just cold or your power steering belt is sliping.

Maybe he calls his Runner a car? Anyway, whatever you have, I have had the same thing happen to me on my Camry. It has only done it a time or two on very cold mornings. It would only do it just after cranking. I figured it was because it was so cold and I never investigated any further. It doesn't get cold here enough to worry about.

well forgive me on calling these beasts "Cars." lol well i guess it really is just cause it's cold, because once everythings warmed up then things are fine. i'll look into power steering slipage.

Try changing out your steering fluid. Changed mine last week and it was a nasty brown color.

changing the fluid is a good idea. It may just be that the fluid is junky or low. I'd also check the condition, and tension of the belt as suggested above it may be slipping.

If it hasn't been checked or changed in years it is not uncommon to have lost some over a really long time. It needs to be changed out from time to time just like any other lubricating product on your "vehicle".

Hydraulic fluids Oxidize, (rust), over time. Takes a long time with modern fluids but ten years and older are iffy especially Ford type "F" transmission fluid. Sometimes people put this in their power steering systems cause it is cheaper most places than regular power steering/transmission/hydraulic fluid.
