Last month my 91 just decided to quit running. For a 2 week period prior I had been encountering really bad surging around 2500-3000rpm and difficulty starting in the mornings. Then one day while driving down the highway she started surging real bad, backfired and died. I have been tearing things apart piece by piece trying to find out why I could not get her to run. She cranked but would never catch. Well I found it. My Maf was bad. When I took it off I heard a small metal on metal sound coming from inside it. I took a utility knife and cut the seal around the top of the sensor and discovered that a small blade spring had broken off. I had tested the maf before the truck died 100% and it tested fine so it was one of the last things i looked at when it died completely. Anyway, I soldered the spring back together and tweaked the connecters alittle and now my truck is running like she's brand new. I never would have expected what I found but I am sure glad I found it.
