Question Flooded 3.0 Rebuil Hmmm....

I LIVE IN LOUISIANA, SO... I've been pulling random parts of a flooded 94? 4runner 3.0.... I'm about to rebuild my 3.0 (due to minor leaking and 220K+ on the odo) I'm thinking i can get the engine off this flooded runner for dirt cheep, and rebuild that one and drop it in my truck w/ no down time...

My good freind at work (Gateway Ford ) also has a 91 3.0 but a p/u not a 4runner. He wants to rebuild his and put headers, ( i'm going oversized valves and headers b.t.w) So i'm thinking we'll rebuild mine and drop it in his, then rebuild his to sell or keep in case of emergency...

My question is does anybody think it might not be feasable since it was flooded... the outside of the engine looks good; which I guess means nothing if water sat in the cylinders even then I could still get they cylinders bored out right? (how bad is that todo?)

Donor: 94 4runner 3.0 auto 2wd (flooded, hurrican katrina)
91 4runner 3.o auto 4wd
91 p/u 3.0 manual 4wd

hmm...your pistons may be rusted to the inside of the cylinders but if you can get them out its gonna require hot tanking the block, some serious cleaning and alot of money...maybe you want to look for a non flooded block at a salvage yard and rebuild it..

Yea I guess I'll check if its locked up... This is just a brainstorm(or fart depending on how ya look at it) probably wont do it but want to look into the feasability of it, maybe i'll be impressed enough to do it..

would it really be that bad? Removing the cylinders shouldnt be that bad (BFH on a big wooden dowel should work) and then you can just have the block hot tanked and punch the cylinders out 0.050" and the block decked. The usual stuff one does if rebuilding the bottom end.

Personally when I/if I do a bottom end Im going to investigate the cost on forged custom rods, and pistons from JE or Keith Black or some other manufact. Forged crank from a 3vzfe will also be nice.

Hell while at it have the block and heads ringed then custom copper headgaskets made! ARP will do their thing for you for about 200 bux. Then you can turbo it and not have to worry about ANYTHING! Imagine a 400+hp 3vze...

maybe im a lil dumb n new but i get really confused on how you would even start hooking up a piggy back like megasquirt! i went to there website n got really confused! Can anyone help me understand this?? also bumpin how much would it cost for all the mods you talked about above???

it'd be cheaper to get a 3.4 from a wrecked truck. but bumpin does have alot of expirence and knowledge of the 3.0 so its really a toss up of how much money you wanna throw at it

I think i'll leave the flooded yota alone (unless i find no major water damage) I might try to get my hands on a j/y engine in decent shape and see what i can get for it, if I could spend $250 on it i'd be estatic... but we'll see

Megasquirt isn't usually configured as a piggyback, although it can be used as one..
You can buy it fully assembled - so 90% of the instructions on the site go away.
Hooking it up can be challenging.. Then you've got to configure and tune it.

As has been said in the past, there is no replacement for displacement. And because of that the 5vzfe > 3vze. However I do like my 3vze. A 3vze reliably making 300+hp would cost a LOT more than a 5vzfe making the same hp.
