Can anybody else pull the key out with engine running?

I can pull my key out of the ignition at any point! It be running and I can just pull my key out. It think it's a little worn out. Good way to warm truck up in a public place, you can look doors and leave it. (I don't do this because someone could bust in and it's already running) but it's an idea.

My old 4runner was like that. I think we figured out at one of our meet and greets that several other people could unlock and start my truck with their key.

Mine will pull right out at any time. I had to go to the dealer one day to get a new key made from the title and VIN, I thought I lost my old one The new key won't come out so I use it as a spare since I like to warm my truck a little in winter.

Do you have to jiggle the key in the door lock to get it to work? I have to jiggle mine pretty good but it still works. I think my key is the original or close to it

Mine does it. I think of it as a feature because I can leave the truck running and go inside while it warms up (doors locked) or go around back and roll the window down or whatever. I like it.

Mine doesn't come out..I don't think. My friend has a 84 pickup, and he's used my key to start his truck before...actually I think it unlocks his driver's door as well.

Mine doesn't, but I kinda wish it did. Could this be a "new" mod?

I had a Jeep CJ-5 that I never needed the key to start, as long as I didn't lock the ignition. My friends knew about it, and were always "stealing" my Jeep and relocating it.

my moms old 93 mercury villlager, and my old 93 explorer both had the ability to remove the key after its started. My explorer wouldnt start with anything but the key in it, but if you didnt make sure to fully lock it, and left it in the acc mode you could start it without anything in for a key.

It got kind of annoying when the keys would fly out while driving.

My 88 4runner does it, but I can't with my 86 4runner. I drove my 88 with the keys to the 86 without knowing I had the wrong key until I got back in the 4runner, I'm glad I didn't lock the door. Also, when I had a new muffler put on the 88, I went to pick it up and the battery was dead, they pulled the key out before pushing the button on the column and left everything on. One thing that helps cause cylinder lock wear out is excessive weight like extra keys or key chains pulling on the cylinder while driving.

yep i had a ford that coudl start withotu any keys you just twisted the thign thta stuck out that is made so that the weight of the keys doesnt destroy the lock....my friends would always steel it. My runner you have to have the keys. It helps to keep your key in good shape and no a lot of stuf hangign off the key if you dont want it to break the ingnigtion liek so many of you have.
