First engine rebuild

First engine rebuild
Hi, Im new to the forums and a friend practicly gave me his 95 4runner, I am a toyota guy so I couldnt turn it down. It has a spun rod bearing so I decided it would be my first engine rebuild. I need a little help with what needs to be sent to the machine shop. I do not want to spend unnecessary money at the shop so I figued ask you guys. The motor is a 95 3vze, I have disassembled most of the engine (still have one head to take apart). The crank is marred in one spot, and the corresponding rod is shot. I have a new toyota rod to replace it, I just dont know what they can do with the crank. Here is the list of what I THINK needs to be done at the maching shop.
Heads:
resurface the heads
check valves
replace valve stems
Block:
resurface
hone/bore
rods checked
fix/grind crank
Like I said this is my first rebuild so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

You've pretty much got all you need to send to the machine shop.
If your not going to replace them, then send the pistons along to.
They should be able to fix whatever is wrong with the crank.
Take some pics of what you have so far for us to see

give your machine shop the pistons and rings when they bore it out. My advise is to let the machine shop look at the block and determine if it has to get bored or just honed before ordering new pistons and rings if your gonna do so. Then get the pistons and rings to the machine shop to bore/hone and set your ring gap. If not then they will still might need the old pistons and new rings.

i got mine out but they where a pain in the ars. i would just let them do it, and if u are thinking of reassembling the heads yourself... pay the extra money and let them, i did mine and it also was a pain due to the valve shims... smh wish i would of just payed the extra 200 for them to do it,

Get the title situation taken care of before you drop the money in it!
Have you thought about ordering a engine?
Check out Oregon engine Rebuilders they have a lifetime warranty as long as you own in...pretty reasonably prices aswell.

DO NOT USE ORE. Too many issues with the guys "lifetime" warranty. The guy does not deserve any more money from any toyota owner whatsoever. I will leave it at that.
That price sounds like it's an estimate assuming its still on the engine and is installed and reinstalled along with a headgasket replacement.

well i would then ask him how much to cut the valves and seats and do the rest your self. it can be done with a little time and patience. u have to then cut the head of the valve and install and put in cam, measure the cam space and replace the shims or grind more valve to set clearances. i got shims from the shot i got my heads done and had to buy one shim from toyota at 10 bucks, other ones i spent 5 for each.

i would throw in a crank from perfect engine .com for 300 you get new crank plus main and rod bearings. i put one of these in a couple years ago and have had no problems, i did however get the forged unit that isnt offered anymore, i belive its just a 3.4 crank. 3.0 and 3.4 cranks spec out the same but the 3.0 is cast while 3.4 is forged
