Looks like a DC power point, for maybe a DC shop light?
That's my guess at least.

Plug for the factory work light. Had a 2 prong plug (same size as a 120V plug) and a 12 volt bulb in a socket.

I've got it, I made up a light for it, have used it a couple of times in a pinch.

The cord is pretty long, i figure once I unravel it, I won't be able to fit it back in the "stock" pouch. Ha.

Its nifty enough to light up that rusty brake booster!! (have you painted that thing yet?)

I have a flah light in the glove box that I can plug into the 12v outlet and charge works just as good, if not better, cause it's LED!

and no... I haven't painted it... and I'm not going to unless I have a reason to remove it, lol

and don't say remove it to paint it...

No... it depended on the market/pkg.you ordered with the truck... I believe it was stock on JDM and aussie/asian market trucks, as well as some euro market trucks.
Over here it came as an option with the "convenience light group" I think.
Some 84-88 SR5 models had the optional light attached on a retractable reel under the far left side of the dash below the speaker if I remember my old 87 owner's manual right.
